Nice that dukies.com is still here! Hopefully the others start checking in as well.

Watched dvr at PST, so no chance to join the comments, but i like the format. Will join live when possible.

Gonna be a big year for ncch, not so much for Duke. I cannot believe how important '10 turned out to be!

Sadly, this team is going to be somewhere between 2007-2008 team and the 1995-96 Team.

Curry is not the answer on the point. Dawkins needs to be more aggressive and drive the damn basket like I am told he does daily at practice.
Hoping Thornton is not Kenny Blakeney "lite." Would be nice for Quinn Cook to get healthy.

Fran Fraschilla said that Duke was not as "athletic" this year. Here we go again with the yearly falsity promulgated by the media that " Duke is not as "athletic" this year." When was Duke athletic? I think the last legitimate time was when Deng was there and also a few games during Henderson's last year. Not sure that "athleticism" translates into National Championships. If it did, why is UCon the only winner of a National Championship from the "athletic" Big East in the past 5 years and why has NCSU not won a title since 1983.

Going to be a long season. Expectations are set very low in my mind. Hoping to be pleasantly surprised with some "fun" games but not expecting too many wins.

Sad I only caught the end...sounds like it was an interesting game. Liked TT, liked RKelly, would have liked to see the beginning so I could have seen more of Rivers. Wasn't impressed with him down the stretch (a couple dumb fouls and wild drives), but it's hard to judge a frosh for that in his first game-I recall being frustrated with JWill after that first game against Stanford years ago too and he turned out alright.

Glad to get a win and glad that Dukies.com is back! I enjoyed the open thread format for tonight and am looking forward to tomorrow!

One-point win, really a four-point win. Not impressive at all but Belmont should be ranked about #22 in the country. We should be ranked about #20. Like the 37 consecutive home wins.

Will be interesting to see how this team reacts to the rest of its schedule.

Duke wins. Later. Please add your thoughts.

Love R Kelly. Rarely makes mistakes, unlike some other people I could name who are large.

Posted by: Matt Date: 11/11/2011 11:16:19 PM
Duke lets Belmont score inside, except that time I think it was deliberate.

Posted by: Josh Date: 11/11/2011 11:15:17 PM
We're seriously going to let a staggered 1-4 pull everyone away from the basket? OK then.

Posted by: Matt Date: 11/11/2011 11:13:50 PM
Andre with a clutch-likely game-winning three with three seconds on the shot clock. Nice. His only three of the game.

Posted by: Josh Date: 11/11/2011 11:13:10 PM
Dre. DRE!

Posted by: Matt Date: 11/11/2011 11:12:15 PM
Dour Doris had a lot of offseason discussions. So who do we want to take this to the hole? Probably Curry.

Posted by: Josh Date: 11/11/2011 11:10:55 PM
OK, that may have been the most ridiculous shot I've seen someone make against Duke, just edging out Bootsy's 3 from the corner that somehow banked in. Sucks to have TT out. Couple of dumb fouls down the stretch.

Posted by: Matt Date: 11/11/2011 11:10:19 PM
Not Your Father's Duke Team. Unless your father was around in 2007. Now I think the score is the same as the 2007 game, 72-71 or close.

Posted by: Matt Date: 11/11/2011 11:08:26 PM
Score eerily similar to the NCAA game in 2007. Gerald Henderson's probably in the building, too.

Posted by: Josh Date: 11/11/2011 11:06:35 PM
Whoops, didn't see Matt's nearly identical comment re: FTs.

Also, isn't Duke usually the team drawing the charges, not charging?

Posted by: Josh Date: 11/11/2011 11:05:20 PM
I would say that Belmont is hurting themselves with missed FTs but we seem to give them the ball right back off the glass each time.

Posted by: Josh Date: 11/11/2011 11:04:32 PM
Late to the party here...DVR issues (ugh, don't get me started) didn't allow me to see the beginning so I picked up with about 4:30 to go. Not so sure that rebound alley-oop by Miles wasn't planned...watching the replay, it didn't look like Rivers was looking to shoot.

Sounds like I should be thankful for TT...only seen him for a few minutes and I've been mighty impressed.

Posted by: Matt Date: 11/11/2011 11:03:21 PM
And there's another one - - not getting the board of a Belmont free throw miss and doofing it out of bounds. Bruins go inside and of course score immediately. Rivers charges.

Posted by: Matt Date: 11/11/2011 11:01:51 PM
Funny how Mason's stats look great, but he's actually played at best a neutral game with all of the mistakes.

Posted by: Matt Date: 11/11/2011 11:00:26 PM
I get the feeling Duke will win this now, and if so, the game ball goes to Thornton. Curry is also forcibly impressive.

Posted by: Matt Date: 11/11/2011 10:59:31 PM
Tyler Thornton - - are you kidding me? Offense, defense, drives, steals. Damn.

Posted by: Matt Date: 11/11/2011 10:52:03 PM
TT goes into the lane and grabs a board, gets fouled. Ouch, awful FTA on the other end. Belmost makes an easy three and it's a one-pointer. I make Duke about 55% to win. RKelly finishes at the end, gets fouled. Makes the FT. A real big man.

Posted by: Matt Date: 11/11/2011 10:49:43 PM
Seth Curry is important.

Posted by: Fats "Lazer" Durston Date: 11/11/2011 10:49:40 PM
Did she just say, "There's the reach-around"?!

Posted by: Matt Date: 11/11/2011 10:48:18 PM
Sigh. Duke just airmailing in bad threes while Belmost catches up. Soon to be a two-point game.

Posted by: Matt Date: 11/11/2011 10:45:45 PM
Duke overranked, Belmont underranked.

Posted by: Matt Date: 11/11/2011 10:44:27 PM
Yeah, I've never figured on Rivers as a clutch three-point shooter. How about a play where he drives the can?

Posted by: Matt Date: 11/11/2011 10:42:28 PM
The ShillBlog has ads. I'm stunned.

Posted by: Matt Date: 11/11/2011 10:41:52 PM
Belmost makes two threes and it's a six-point game as Duke takes a very predictable time out.

Ryan Kelly: the Duke Big Man Who Can Actually Finish.

Posted by: Matt Date: 11/11/2011 10:37:38 PM
Lord, that "restricted circle" is abhorrent. What's next? Draw a diagram of a dude traveling somwhere near midcourt, just for zebraic reference? Stupid.

Posted by: Matt Date: 11/11/2011 10:35:04 PM
Wow, I had no idea that computers could contract viruses that slow their performance. I'm glad ESPNU is here to tell us these things. For fun, imagine the same actors in a boner ad. Same general idea, so their talents wouldn't be stretched. Change the copy, add a cheesy twanging guitar or "sex me" sax, and you're set.

Posted by: Matt Date: 11/11/2011 10:33:15 PM
Yeah, Rivers is ridiculously good at forcing contact at getting to the line.

Plumlees now with about eight or nine bonehead plays (BHPs) to start the second half.

Posted by: Matt Date: 11/11/2011 10:31:19 PM
One thing Mason does really well: defensive glass. Very reliable down there.

Posted by: Matt Date: 11/11/2011 10:27:45 PM
TT cans a 3PFG, RTWG, nothing but twine. That's awesome. Okay, maybe he should be playing. He's starting to remind me of one of those annoying clowns who has no right to be a contributor for, say, NCCH, but is. Except Tyler is neither annoying nor a clown.

Posted by: Matt Date: 11/11/2011 10:26:10 PM
Thornton making the offense go. Hm. 50-37 now. Duke looking like Duke.

Posted by: Matt Date: 11/11/2011 10:24:35 PM
Things I'd love to see: someone over at the GoDuke ShillBlog suddenly break loose with asking how much is too much Plumlee, or some such well-earned criticism. How fantastic would that be?

Posted by: Fats "Lazer" Durston Date: 11/11/2011 10:06:31 PM
The UNC-MSU game mighta been more intersting if the third "charge" drawn by Tyler had been called correctly. Then again, prolly it wouldn't've, if that's a proper tense.

Posted by: Matt Date: 11/11/2011 10:03:35 PM
I thought that K/Paterno deal was weird when it happened and now it just seems outright bizarre. I imagine that Duke will probably stop selling any items commemorating that event.

Posted by: Matt Date: 11/11/2011 10:02:07 PM
I guess there's going to be a foreced five-year moratorium on "compromising photo" humor.

Posted by: Matt Date: 11/11/2011 10:01:22 PM
Tools beat Michigan State 67-55. Considering how terrible MSU is this season, and how Roy has compromising photos of Tom Izzo, that's really not very impressive.

Posted by: Fats "Lazer" Durston Date: 11/11/2011 10:01:11 PM
Guess I'll join the liveblogging here. Glad to see somewhere I can bitch about Bilas's Tarhole tonguebaths, because my wife is frankly tired of hearing such.

There was something I had to say about the game, but the beer seems to be occluding my memory.

Posted by: Matt Date: 11/11/2011 9:57:41 PM
Seth makes a three, TT "draws" an offensive foul. Replay reveals it was at-best a no-call. Duke does nothing with its last possession leads 39-30 at the half. Take away the backdoor cut and the score is 39-2.

Posted by: Matt Date: 11/11/2011 9:54:03 PM
Cook and Thornton both in now as Kelly makes two free throws. GoDuke's live blog explodes.

Posted by: Matt Date: 11/11/2011 9:52:43 PM
Mason makes a hook shot, now 1-42 on hook shots at Duke.

SLOPPY, sloppy game.

Posted by: Matt Date: 11/11/2011 9:49:11 PM
GoDuke's live blog credits Quinn Cook with TT's three-pointer. Oof.

Posted by: Matt Date: 11/11/2011 9:47:12 PM
Silly turnovers abound, none of the really the fault of the PG spot, either. Yes, I'm referring to the one position as an inanimate object for now.

TT caps a three. I love that.

Belmont scores again down low. Jesus.

Posted by: Matt Date: 11/11/2011 9:44:40 PM
Zeller could average 40 against Duke this season.

Posted by: Matt Date: 11/11/2011 9:42:35 PM
Oddly, Belmont is not crashing the o-boards.

Posted by: Matt Date: 11/11/2011 9:41:43 PM
Rivers with his first FG as a Blue Devil. A three-pointer from the top of the key.

Posted by: Matt Date: 11/11/2011 9:39:03 PM
Cutcliffe: "We can't stop ourselves with penalties." What do you mean, Coach? Sure you can.

Posted by: Matt Date: 11/11/2011 9:37:20 PM
Belmont gets a backdoor cut on seemingly every play. Might want to seal that up. Miles blows a bunny on the other end. Sigh. BUT HE FOLLOWS WITH AN AND-ONE. Nice!

Posted by: Matt Date: 11/11/2011 9:35:22 PM
Duke starting to look like half of a team now. Defense is still atrocious.

Posted by: Matt Date: 11/11/2011 9:33:00 PM
Kelly's beard is totally ridiculous.

Posted by: Matt Date: 11/11/2011 9:31:38 PM
Doris totally blows the elbow call, then backtracks with the heat of a thousand suns, says it's ALWAYS a foul. She's vexed! Relates a cute story in which she phoned some officiating muckety-muck to defend the art of elbow-swinging.

Posted by: Matt Date: 11/11/2011 9:30:11 PM
Half the Neeba is in the building. Wonder why?

Oh, good to see that Duke could find room for Nate James behind the bench.

Tools pummeling Michigan State in the "How Many Venues Can Horseface Make Look Izzo Silly In" series. A couple of years ago, Ford Field. This year, the USS Vinson. Next season, Antarctica and the moons of Uranus are under consideration.

Posted by: Matt Date: 11/11/2011 9:25:53 PM
Dour Doris on color. Wow. She sounds great with the sound off, though.

Posted by: Matt Date: 11/11/2011 9:22:54 PM
Austin Rivers is very good at getting to the line. Ah, good to see Quinn Cook in there.

Doc Rivers in the stands with Kara Starbuck from Battlestar Galactica.

Posted by: Matt Date: 11/11/2011 9:19:10 PM
Oh, boy, GoDuke has a live game blog this season. I'm sure there will be lots of trenchant analysis. Does the DBR offer one?

Posted by: Matt Date: 11/11/2011 9:17:44 PM
Amazingly, Dawkins did get the start. Too much Plumlee for Kelly to squeeze his way in.

Posted by: Matt Date: 11/11/2011 9:17:11 PM
Belmont went on a preseason trip, too, to Italy. No one wants to hear my views on the China/Dubai gallivant, so I'll keep them to myself.

Belmont is joining the Ohio Valley next season, forsaking the A-Sun. Not sure I get the point of that move.
