Heading into the postseason, what's your take?
Duke is a serious Final Four contender
We just may have kept the Duke Foot Injury from ending our season for the third straight year
Miami is really backing into the tournament phase
So much for those little Tools and their VAUNTED twelve-guard lineup, at least until next Saturday
Still not going to miss Maryland, College Park at all
Just enjoying the ride
I have some gripe or other but will hold it for now

My goodness. How 'bout dem Plumlees? Maybe Mason's best game? And Curry Wally Pipping Nolan? Now that was some kind of fun.

Heehee. OOPS! Spoke WAY too soon apparently!

ClemsonGuest - they better bring it tomorrow. Vintage Clemson without the last-minute fold please.

I was at work with my little TV keeping everyone updated on the score of the game. I knew what was going to happen. I was saying it all along. What was frustrating was not just the game. But there was this new guy from SC that doesn't know anything really about college basketball and he's asking stupid questions while the game is going on. He reminded me of that girlfriend that sits on the couch who doesn't watch sports and starts asking questions and your like, "just shut up and go away." But I knew even with that big league Miami would lose it. UNC is the team of density don't you know. Anyway, for some reason, I decided to schedule a date tonight at 7 so I'm DVRing the game and wearing headphones and blinders when we go out. For the sacrifices I'm making I'd better get something in return.

Sorry - I'm looking a bit ahead of myself on the UNC game ClemsonGuest. Just a gut feeling. But I'd take a Clemson win against UNC too! :)

That is a painful score to look at. By two. Wow.

Okay, onto the 7pm match-up for me at least.

I watched a bit of the State/Twerps game yesterday and Sweaty's team was displaying a lot of the holes they showed in the last meeting with the Devils - defensive lapses, etc.

Here's hoping nearly a week of rest and some much needed soul-searching/team captain-yelling has us in good form (i.e. more than Nolan playing). I want to destroy Merryland. Statement win please!

Also, I can't wait to see the BC-UNC game tomorrow. Go Iggles!

Two epic collapses. Miami wins in one and loses in another.

But really, it's just because Carolina gets all the calls, as we all know.

Rats. They almost had it.

JEEBUS FUCK. I've said it before and I'll say it again, why have half-a-dozen teams given games away to Carolina in the ACC this year?

Posted by: Josh Date: 3/11/2011 2:07:06 PM
Oh, Miami. You just can't resist handing games to the Tools, can you?

Posted by: Andrew Hicks Date: 3/11/2011 1:22:29 PM
I'm loving those 'Canes so far. Nine steals from the Tools in the first half (and 15 turnovers), held them to 30% shooting and 22 points. And that was quite a comeback yesterday. I hope they can get it done in the second half.

(refrains from comparing Miami's defense against the Tools to Duke's, except to say that they also did a good job against the Tools in Coral Gables the last time they played, so maybe it is not just a fluke.)

I hope that S. Lowe is done. They need a real coach over there.

The last comment about FSU should have read "they're quite a different team since beating us, again at their place, almost two months ago."

Posted by: Matt Date: 3/7/2011 11:07:36 PM
I was lucky enough to have a front-row seat (literally, not just in the Bob Uecker sense) for Miami's victory over Maryland at the Conversation Center (beautiful but empty arena) five days ago, and got a fairly close look at why I have no fears of Maryland. CDG, I don't think State will make it, as the main concern of the players who are returning, like Harrow, is that Lowe gets canned. So it should be MDCP, and since they can't hit a three-point shot, and are even worse than NCCH in that regard, Duke might be able to win even if only three guys show up, as long as one of those three is Nolan. If the whole team miraculously appears, then Duke wins easily.

The only bummer about the bracket from Duke's perspective is that VPI just missed being on the Tools' side and is instead on ours. However, they were very lucky to beat us in Blacksburg, we gave that game away, and so I'm not particularly worried about them either. Same thing with FSU - - they're quite a different team since beating us, against at their place, almost two months ago.

I think the draw is very good, but Duke has to show up.

I'd sure like to get another crack at VPI, FSU and UNC. I'm bored with Maryland and would like to see them wash out on day one frankly.

I'm looking forward to the tournament and hope to enjoy it. If we play the way we have to play to win it, it doesn't matter who we play against. The most important thing is to win the thing and get a No. 1 seed in "the big dance."

In all the hype leading up to Saturday's UNC game there were a lot of statements to the effect that "well, championships are nice, but beating Carolina is the most important thing." Nonsense, I say. The most important thing is getting to the Final Four and playing for all the marbles.

How many times have we seen Maryland have a poor, NIT-bound season only to hear them crow "well, at least we beat Duke-- that's the most important thing!" Loser talk if you ask me.

Don't get me wrong, I really wanted to beat Carolina twice this season. I'm just more focused on the national championship. That's the one that matters. Now let's go out there and grab it.

Go Duke.

Don't worry Matt, I am not concerned about the Twerps, but I would much rather get NCSU. Why? So we can handle them AGAIN and demonstrate AGAIN why they need a new coach. Anything we can do to help a good program get rid of SLowe would be awesome.

tom, great reference. PHenderson said that after Duke's performance in the 1990 ACC-T. Phil had a big year - - racked up a DWI, talked to Lou Henson about transferring to the Illwhini for his senior year, then hung around and led the team (Duke) through the NCAA Tourney before, of course, the loss to a bunch of criminals in the NCAAs. That dunk over Mourning came when I was a Duke freshman and is one of my favorite Duke moments ever. I got to rewatch that game a few seasons ago and we were all just waiting for the posterization. Awesome.

I don't have the transcript handy, but apparently Nolan wasn't too thrilled after Saturday's fire drill either. He stated that we couldn't even beat their walk-ons, and he was right - - didn't everyone else know the game was over when K had RKelly firing ridiculous three-pointers against a lineup of Knox, three midgets and a Franklin Street bellhop? UH, GO INSIDE THERE, K.

As I said, moving on. I like our bracket. I would rather have our side than the Tools' side, actually, although even if Horseface tries his usual ACC-T tankjob, they'll reach the final.

Yes, Tom! Love the Phil reference - one of my favorite players in Duke history. In addition to his famous dunk over Alonzo Mourning, I liked the smoothness of his game and his quiet toughness. We could use a Phil on this squad for sure. Hoping the team can find a way to win a couple of games this weekend. Everyone is right that this team just doesn't play great defense and it would seem that this is the place to start in turning things around. However, I am not sure it is in this bunch. We are going to have to get a lot more efficient offensively. Selfishly, would like to see Nolan play 7 or 8 more games - he is just great to watch. Probably a pipe dream, but I will dream nonetheless.

tom, that is great! I had forgotten that bit of history. Now would be a very good time for something like that, and you are right; Nolan looked really pissed. With reason.

I agree with Matt; this is a good set of brackets for Duke. I would not be surprised to see either Virginia or Miami beat the Tools on Friday, possibly by double digits. For one thing, they often don't take the ACC tourney very seriously.

Go Duke!

Got my 3.5 inch digital TV set up to watch the games at work. And I can be at home to watch Friday's game. Just got out there and do what you have to. Hey, remember Phil Henderson? Correct me here when was it that he got so pissed after they lost and he said "we just have a bunch of babies on this team" For some reason, I'm reminded now of this. Maybe it was because of how pissed off Nolan looked at the end of the game. Regardless, let's get it together and go for that number 1 seed in the tourney.
